(EN ver. inside)

Who Fears Theism? — What Exactly Does “Big Brother” Dread?

By HuSir
In George Orwell’s classic allegory, 1984, every corner of Oceania is plastered with the face of a mustachioed man, accompanied by the chilling declaration: “Big Brother is watching you.”
However, in the logic of reality, the opposite is true: what Big Brother fears most is the people truly “watching him.” This fear stems from his denial of God; the foundation of his power is not built upon truth, but upon the total encirclement and subversion of the spiritual world.

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson recently pointed out that the logical premise of communism and socialism is “the absence of God.” This is by no means a simple theological debate, but a profound profound political-philosophical proposition: when a system denies a transcendent divinity, its true purpose is to achieve the “deification of power.”

  • The Monopoly of Ultimate Interpretation: In a society that acknowledges God, the supreme standards are divine revelation, natural law, or a moral code that transcends the secular. But the system of Big Brother must eradicate all of these, for it demands absolute, exclusive loyalty. It denies the Bible because it intends for its own “Party Charter” and “Quotations from the Supreme Leader” to become the only “Bible.”
  • The Monopolist of Definitions: Without God (or a moral benchmark higher than the state), concepts like “justice,” “truth,” and “rights” lose their constant anchors. Big Brother can then arbitrarily define what is right and what is wrong according to the needs of his rule. In this vacuum, the government ceases to be the mere practitioner of power and becomes the very source of it—it becomes the sole, living “God.”
  • Granting and Depriving: By denying “unalienable rights,” rights are transformed into “favors” granted by the government. Big Brother fears most the people realizing that rights are inherent by birth, for that would mean he has no authority to strip them away.

Despite Big Brother’s iron will and pervasive surveillance, deep within his heart hide three fears capable of toppling his edifice:

  1. Truth and Information Freedom (A Challenge to the Interpretation of History): Big Brother’s rule relies on “grand narratives” and the constant rewriting of history. He fears the truth because truth possesses an objectivity that pierces through time. Once authentic historical facts, real economic data, and the true picture of life in the free world penetrate the closed information environment on a large scale, the self-consistency of that “always correct” logic will instantly collapse. Any system that depends on a constantly revised narrative ultimately dreads the reality of history and the present.
  2. Universal Values and Human Rights (A Challenge to the Source of Power): Big Brother fears people believing in a value system “higher than state power.” Whether derived from God or natural law, as long as individuals believe that “being human” entails inviolable dignity and freedom, Big Brother’s collectivist control will suffer a dual delegitimization—both legally and morally.
  3. The Awakening of the Individual (Immunity to Atomized Control): Big Brother’s most successful technique of rule is to make everyone an isolated “cog” responsible only to the organization. He fears the emergence of the “Person”—a dignified subject with independent will, an independent soul, and the capacity for independent thought. When an awakened individual can no longer be manipulated or coerced, the logic of Big Brother’s rule loses its object of action.

Faced with this pervasive governing theory of lies, we are not powerless. The way to respond lies not in violent confrontation, but in the persistence of “living in truth.”

  1. Guarding the Bottom Line of Life: Refuse to Actively Lie
As Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn said: “Our only path is this: for us not to consciously support lies.” If you do not have the strength to expose every lie, you can at least achieve this: do not participate in, do not repeat, and do not forward those propaganda pieces that go against your conscience. When a lie stops at the tip of your tongue, one link in Big Brother’s chain of rule is broken.
  2. Returning to Common Sense: Rebuilding the Coordinate System from Truth
Big Brother excels at using “Newspeak” to twist logic; we must use common sense to guard our minds. Record the truth and refuse to forget; discern logic and identify falsehoods. Insist on the dignity of common sense—that “2+2=4.”
  3. Building an Internal “Temple”: Seeking Transcendent Power
Whether or not you have a specific religious faith, you must reserve a territory within your heart that Big Brother cannot touch. Acknowledge the existence of moral laws higher than secular power. Start by seeking the truth, start by loving concrete individuals, and gradually dismantle those grand, illusory theories of governance.

The rule of Big Brother appears invincible, yet it is extremely fragile, for it is built upon a void and the distortion of human nature. Lies must rely on loudspeakers blaring 24 hours a day to sustain their existence, but the truth simply exists there, and will remain there forever.
When we begin to persist in not lying, when we begin to search for those sacred values higher than secular power, the haughty face of Big Brother will begin to crack. In this process, we are not only deconstructing an old system, we are redeeming ourselves—returning from a brainwashed cog to a person with a soul, dignity, and true humanity.
Do not be afraid, for any system built upon falsehood and spiritual control will ultimately fear the truth, freedom, and those values that transcend secular power.
